A 43-year-old woman is accused of stabbing two people in Crown Heights over the weekend.
One of those victims, 74-year-old Hadiatou Bah, died. The other, a 72-year-old woman, was critically injured.
Police say 43-year-old Oumou Bah is charged with murder, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
News 12 was told that the suspect was actually a roommate of the victims.
Oumou Bah is accused of using scissors to stab the 74-year-old woman multiple times in the head and arms until she died, and repeatedly stabbing another woman in her back and arms.
Tenants of the building say this kind of violence is much different than what they are used to.
"Neighbors don't kill each other here," said Diana Harris.
Harris described hearing two women and a man arguing from the elevator moments before the attack.
She said the two women went inside the apartment and locked the man outside. She says the man then began aggressively banging the door before walking away.
Minutes later, the neighbor heard police in the hallway saying someone had been stabbed.
Officials say that Oumou Bah and Hadiatou Bah are not related – despite having the same last name.
