Residents at 1 Blue Slip in Greenpoint have a view of the frozen East River this weekend — and frozen pipes to match.
Residents say hot water service throughout the entire building failed around noon Saturday, followed by a drop in temperatures inside the building. As conditions stretched into Sunday, they said they were frustrated that on the coldest day in the past three years, their apartments offered no relief.
“I’m a senior, I have conditions that need running water, and right now I can’t shower, I can’t flush, nothing,” resident Brenda Pleasant said.
“I’m boiling water out of bottles to drink, to bathe, to do everything because we have nothing running right now,” said resident Dwanye Daniels. “Right now, with this cold, you don’t want to play with it, not at all.”
Residents say the management company has offered to reimburse those who choose to stay in a hotel during the outage.
News 12 also saw HPD officials on site, but the cause of the disruption in heat and hot water had not been confirmed.
