The FDNY says one person is recovering in the hospital after a fire broke out on the ninth floor of a residential building in Brownsville on Friday afternoon.
Flames were seen bursting through the windows of the apartment as firefighters rushed to the scene.
Citizen App video captured dramatic moments as firefighters worked on the balcony while thick, black smoke poured from shattered windows.
The smell of smoke still lingers in the area, and the apartment’s balcony appears heavily charred.
A nearby resident told News 12 that a young mother and her daughter live in the unit, though their condition is currently unknown.
The Red Cross was spotted at the scene earlier in the day, and News 12 reached out to learn more about what support it is providing the affected family.
