Dozens of community members, faith leaders, and elected officials held a prayer service on Saturday in Bushwick to honor 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore, who was killed by a stray bullet earlier in the week.

Loved ones remembered the baby girl as an angel who was always happy and smiling.

“We are hurt,” said Arlene Poitier, the victim’s great grandmother. “We have anger. My family is broken.”

The deadly shooting happened around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said a gunman fired into a crowd on Humboldt and Moore streets.

Investigators said they believe the incident may be gang-related and that the child was not the intended target.

“This should have never happened,” said Christina Poitier, the victim’s grandmother. “There should’ve never been a shooting where a baby is being killed as an innocent bystander.”

The family previously told News 12 that the child’s 2-year-old brother was also grazed in the shooting.

Amuri Green, 21, faces several charges including murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Matthew Rodriguez, 18, was taken into custody on Friday in Pennsylvania. Police said charges were still pending as of Saturday evening while Rodriguez is being extradited to New York.

Investigators said the two suspects were seen speeding away from the scene on a moped.

“We have to make sure that the individuals who are responsible for this heinous crime are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James, who attended Saturday’s vigil. “We do have to work with the community and, obviously, need to address gun violence.”

As a memorial continued to grow for the victim, her grandmother pleaded to put the guns down.

“I refuse to go to sleep and watch any child in this area continue to suffer because someone wants to be stupid,” said Christina Poitier. “This cannot happen anymore.”
