The Brooklyn district attorney announced today that the parents of 4-year-old Aron Sklar were arraigned on an indictment charging them in connection with the child’s death.
Yitzchok Sklar, 33, and Miriam Elkayam, 27, were charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Aron was exposed to fentanyl in an East Flatbush family shelter where he lived with his parents. He was found unresponsive by police and emergency personnel on March 4, 2025.
“This indictment alleges a heartbreaking level of neglect that resulted in a fatal overdose of a 4-year-old boy,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. “Parents have a fundamental responsibility to keep their children safe, and by allegedly allowing fentanyl and other narcotics into their residence, these defendants failed in that duty.”
He was given Narcan in an attempt to reverse the impact of the drugs, but it was not successful.
Toxicology reports confirmed that the child’s cause of death was exposure to fentanyl.
Yitzchok Sklar, along with another man, 33-year-old Ahuva Katzin, was previously arrested on federal charges in relation to the case for conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death.
