The Rite Aid on Bay Parkway and 60th Street is set to close on May 12, marking the second store shutdown in the area this week.
Earlier, a location on 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst also closed its doors.
The closures come as Rite Aid undergoes restructuring after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last fall. The company has been shutting down underperforming locations nationwide as part of its efforts to stabilize operations.
In a statement, the company said:
“The decision to close a store is not one we take lightly. While we have had to make difficult business decisions over the past several months to improve our business and optimize our retail footprint, we are committed to becoming financially and operationally healthy. Demand for our products and services remains strong, and we continue to serve our customers with the same high-quality service they have come to expect from us. We believe we are taking the right approach to becoming more agile as we meet the health and wellness needs of customers in the communities we serve.”
The closure is leaving customers in the area surprised and frustrated.
