Queens man charged with attempted murder after knife attack ends in police-involved shooting
A man is facing a slew of charges, including attempted murder after a knife attack inside a Queens home ended in a police-involved shooting Friday night, according to the NYPD.
Rashawn Donovan, 48, who police say lives at the house where the incident unfolded, was arrested on Saturday evening. A 39-year-old woman, who the NYPD says refused to drop a knife, was shot three times by police.
According to investigators, officers responded to multiple 911 calls of a home invasion and stabbing inside 133-35 149th St. at around 9:38 p.m.
At first, police say they were unable to make contact with anyone inside the home, but eventually, two men appeared at a front window, one with visible injuries.
Detectives say one man told the officers he had been stabbed and could not come downstairs because a relative was still inside the home.
The NYPD says officers entered the house after they heard screaming inside and a woman threw keys from a third-floor window.
Police found two men and a woman in a third-floor bedroom, where the NYPD says the two men complied with commands, but the woman did not.
According to investigators, the woman moved toward officers wielding a knife. One officer then deployed a Taser and another opened fire.
The NYPD says the woman suffered gunshot wounds to her shoulder, leg and chest.
According to police, a 39-year-old man suffered a stab wound to the right bicep while a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the left shoulder.
Investigators say Donovan suffered a laceration to the right pinky.
Paramedics took the woman, Donovan and the two other men to the hospital. Police say they are all listed in stable condition.
Detectives say two knives were recovered at the scene.
According to the NYPD, Donovan is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
No additional arrests had been made as of Saturday night.
Information about what sparked the violent incident was not immediately available.
