A water main break sent water rushing down McKibbin Street in Bushwick Thursday morning, disrupting nearby businesses and buildings.

The break happened just before 8 a.m., prompting crews to close the block to traffic and shut off water to some buildings in the area.

One man who works nearby said his roughly 50-person shop was forced to shut down because of the break. Others in the area were also dealing with water service disruptions, including bathrooms that could not be used.

The Department of Environmental Protection says crews have secured the site of the water main break and are working to determine what caused it.
