A sinkhole discovered during a routine inspection of the airfield at LaGuardia Airport forced the shutdown of a runway.
The hole was found near Runway 4/22 at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Airport officials say crews are on site carrying out emergency repairs.
The cause of the sinkhole is currently unknown.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is expected to give updates on the situation as they are in communication with airlines and airport partners.
LaGuardia officials also say travelers should expect delays and cancellations in part due to the thunderstorm forecasted later in the day Wednesday.
