This dry and breezy weather will keep the brush fire risk elevated. Much-needed rain and possible storms returns later this week and into the weekend.
A fire weather statement remains in effect through the end of Wednesday as very low humidity and occasional 25 mph gusts could cause a brush fire. The very dry air will also keep tree pollen very high, especially maple pollen. The very high pollen will remain through the end of the workweek, as the next chance of rain does not arrive until Thursday night.
It will temporarily be cooler on Thursday with a sea breeze across the entire borough. Highs will top out in the upper 60s with more clouds, especially into the afternoon and evening. Rain showers are possible with a warm front between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday. Showers should clear before the morning commute Friday, but some patchy fog can't be ruled out.
As the sun pokes out mid-morning Friday, temperatures will be off to the races. 80s are likely away from the water, and the more direct sun there will be, the hotter the temperatures get. The sun will in turn help spark pop-up thunderstorms. Expect a stray storm or two between 2 p.m. and sunset late Friday.
The chance for rain continues into the weekend as storm energy remains, with rain and possible thunderstorms much of the day. Saturday will still be warm in the upper 70s and low 80s, but storms will be more widespread during the p.m. hours. There is even an opportunity for strong-to-severe storms, stay tuned and follow Allan along, @AWxNYC for hyperlocal updates all week.
A few lingering showers are now likely for Sunday. Scattered showers and drizzle could even extend into early next week before clearing out midweek next week.
