Maimonides Medical Center expanded its Breast Cancer Center on Monday by opening a new wing geared towards survivors.

Dr. Patrick Borgen, director of the center, said it is a new home for quick testing with state-of-the-art technology.

"Overwhelmingly, breast cancer has become a curable condition," said Borgen. "So, our patients need a place to come so they're not tangled with all of the diagnoses of current breast cancer patients."

Borgen said the suite will serve about 45 patients each day and will be equipped with 3D imaging, high-resolution ultrasound, as well as dietary and genetic counseling.

"A woman who has a mammogram every year, starting at age 40, reduces her chances of dying of breast cancer by almost 50%," said Borgen.

Borgen said the new technology serves a real need in the borough, because Brooklyn has more breast cancer cases than 15 U.S. states.

"If you're 40 or older, please come have your mammogram," said Borgen.
