A day after the deadly fire inside a Sunset Park home, a police car and metal bars blocked off part of the street as FDNY continues their investigation into the cause of the flames.
The chaotic scene early Thursday morning was caught on cellphone video by community members at around 1:39 a.m. showing smoke and flames bursting out of the home, as nearby neighbors sprinted to safety.
FDNY says the fire inside 653 58th St. killed six people and left nine others injured.
A total of 231 emergency crew members responded to the heavy fire, coming across four people trapped inside the home. They say two of them later died in the hospital.
Four people were also found dead inside the home. Additional victims include three firefighters, two police officers, and four civilians.
Despite using Hazmat resources during their response to the fire, FDNY has not confirmed if it was the reason behind the tragedy.
Hours after the fire, neighbors watched in disbelief as body bags and two e-bikes were carried out of the home.
As of Friday, there were still a lot of questions about the cause of the fire and the ages of the victims. FDNY has not provided any further updates.
