An East Flatbush church has completed a series of major renovations.
The improvements at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church include a new sanctuary, new walls and floors, new sound systems and new lighting.
Marie Jocelyne Myrtle has been a parishioner for 50 years. She says the church means everything.
“This is home. This is home for me and my family as well," said Myrtle.
Renovations started in 2020 and finished in September of 2025. Father Michael Bruno, the pastor at the church, says the upgrades bring in something new, while honoring what was there before.
"Everything from the flooring, the pews, all being refinished, and certainly the altar. The main altar, which is the center of our parish - the center of our church - is original. So that altar was untouched. The crucifix as well was original, but placed behind a new wood background," said Father Bruno.
Myrtle says the upgrades have grown the church.
“It's caused the church to grow more and more," said Myrtle.
Father Bruno says things like the upgraded sound system and lighting have also benefitted those who attend the services online. He says the upgrades go beyond the building.
“It reminds us of God's beauty, the goodness of creation, the beauty of creation," said Father Bruno.
