The detective who was shot during
a police-involved shooting in Bed-Stuy is now out of the hospital, according to the Detective Endowment Association.
The union shared a video on X showing Detective Matthew Gale, of the Emergency Unit, being wheeled out of the hospital in a gurney as his fellow officers saluted and cheered him on.
“There’s no routine work for NYPD Detectives. Just days ago, our brother Detective was shot and injured in the line of duty,” posted the DEA.
Gale was wounded in the leg after 48-year-old Lamin Simmons fired at officers responding to a call of shots fired and a barricaded individual inside an apartment building on Kosciuszko Street on Friday.
Simmons was fatally shot when officers fired back.
