The owners of a Brooklyn Heights shop are speaking out after a public dispute with superstar Kelly Clarkson.
The singer and talk show host accused an employee at Art of Play of suggesting she find something more affordable when she asked about an item worth $15,000. But the store says that didn't happen, sharing in a statement that the item Clarkson was asking about is a one-of-a-kind singing bird automaton that's permanently attached to the wall and not for sale.
Adam Rubin, one of the owners, said the backlash now has them fearing for their safety.
"People are showing up and screaming at us," said Rubin. "The neighbors called the cops. The neighbors are getting doxxed. We're getting hundreds of text messages, phone calls."
The owners said what happened was a complete misunderstanding that could have been handled with a simple conversation.
