New surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows a bold break-in at a Cypress Hills restaurant where a safe containing about $100,000 worth of valuables was stolen.
The break-in happened early May 26 at Chef Quang Guyanese Chinese Express near Atlantic Avenue and Crescent Street.
Video shows a person forcing through a door, covering his face with a T-shirt and squeezing through the opening to get inside the restaurant.
Management told News 12 the person spent about seven minutes inside before leaving with a safe.
Another camera captured the person walking across a parking lot carrying the safe away from the business.
Restaurant staff confirmed the safe did not contain cash. Instead, they said it held about $100,000 worth of valuable personal items.
The business declined an on-camera interview but told News 12 this is not the first time the restaurant has been targeted. Staff described the loss as devastating.
Investigators have also released photos of the person they are trying to identify. In the images, the man is seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket and gray pants. One photo appears to show him with a Citi Bike.
Investigators believe the same person may be connected to two other break-ins reported within the past week.
One happened May 24 at a business on Jamaica Avenue in Queens, where about $900 was taken after a glass door was broken.
Another happened late May 30 at a business on Conduit Boulevard, also in Cypress Hills. Investigators say about $2,000 was taken from a cash register after a window was broken.
Anyone who recognizes the person in the photos is asked to contact Crime Stoppers
